Word of the Year - a Giveaway

I'm really excited about today's post, not only because it's my very first giveaway, but also because the concept behind it is just so wonderful. So wonderful in fact that I'm giving away a custom made gold Word of the Year necklace by the stunning Lisa Leonard Designs to one lucky Nishaantishu reader.

Have you heard of the concept of One Little Word? The idea comes from Ali Edwards' blog, and it's about choosing one word to represent your year. In Ali's own words:

"You live with it. You invite it into your life. You let it speak to you. You might even follow where it leads. There are so many possibilities."

My word for 2013 is Brave. I'm going to try to be braver this year, to not worry so much and to just face whatever comes with a bit of a stronger heart.

I think One Little Word such a wonderful concept, choosing just one thing to bring into your life, one little seed to plant and watch how it grows, quietly sitting with it to see what shape it takes.

That's why I'm doing this giveaway, so that once you choose your word for 2013, and if you win, I can have it put on a necklace for you as a reminder of the direction you want to be heading in, and of what you want to get out of this year. You can read more about the words over on Ali's blog post, here.

I've created the Rafflecopter whats-it below to make this giveaway simple, it is open to entrants from all over the world, and ends on Monday the 14th. Good luck!

p.s. your word cannot be more than 8 characters long as it needs to fit on the necklace.

  1. I chose the word 'faithful' for 2013. I like making plans, coming up with big ideas and long projects. And then I abandone them. Last year I started a 365 photo a day kind of thing and quit around half way through. Then I moved on to smaller projects, weekly or monthly projects thinking maybe long term is not for me. So of these projects I finished, some didn't. So I want to be faithful to my ideas, my plans. This is why my word is faithful.

Thanks for hosting this giveaway, it is a sweet little one.

I've been wanting to write my own blog post about "one little word". I think my word would be either "experience" or "achieve".

  4. Oh what a splendid giveaway! I wasn't sure I was going to do a word this year but you have encouraged me too :) My word is going to be reach. I want to reach out to others. I want to reach new goals and new experiences. I want to reach for the stars!

  5. I've been reading all about how everyone is taking on a word for the new year. I dont' really have one, until now! I starting thinking about it and it's "transform" I want to change but in a careful and meaningful way. I also made myself a follower here. I'll be back soon for more inspiration. Have a good day!

  6. Oooh, what a lovely giveaway! My word of the year is Value. For so many reasons but to value my time, the people around me.

  7. Oh how lovely! I was introduced to the 'word of the year' concept through Anna at skin and blister... and after much consideration my word is Temperance because I need a hit of moderation or self-restraint in action, statement, etc.; self-control this year, but also like that it's a gentle word with connotations of consuming less, taking less, wanting less and needing less. Gorgeous promo and LOVELY website. x

  8. Brave is a good one. If you can pair it with ginger hair and a Scottish accent, that'd be awesome too!

  9. Oh this is a tricky one. Just one word. Right, I'm going to go for balance. Because this year we're having a baby and I'm going to need to maintain balance in my life to remain 'normal'. So no excessive posting of baby pictures, no hibernating and not exercising, date night with the husband to be executed and wine to be consumed (eventually). Help! might be more apt though!

  10. Lovely post! For some reason the Rafflecopter form has crashed so I'll have to pop back later to submit an entry!

I just posted my word yesterday - I chose "forward" for all the connotations it brings. (you can have a little read here if you'd like!)

I think the word brave is incredibly empowering - good luck! :)

  11. My word for 2013 is 'Believe'. I don't have too much belief in myself and it has held me back for so long. I promised myself that this year I will chase my dreams, the long held little desires I only really admit to myself :-)

I think the word 'Brave' is a beautiful choice

  12. My word for 2013 is 'magpie', as it's often the moments that are seemingly of little value (a cuppa with friends, baking, walking, finishing my knitting) that I really want to collect and cherish as the year goes on and the stresses of life come with it :)

  14. I think I wrote a comment, but can't see it, so I suppose it hasn't worked!

Oh well... Let's try again! (Hopefully I can remember what I wrote!)

I've onyl come across your blog today & I love it! So inspirational!

The word I've chose is 'Courage'. I'm quite a confident person, but often suffer from self doubt and worry quite a lot. It's time to put a stop to this!

Hope you have a fab 2013 and I look forward to reading more of your blog!
    Much love,
    Anna

  16. A lovely competition. I entered on the form - I hope I have done it right! I too was made aware by Anna at Skin and Blister of a word for the year & it's taken me so long to decide upon the right one. My word is love - not being in love so much, more what you can do for yourself, for others and what others do for you because of love. I know it sounds cheesey but it makes sense to me!
